After the success of week one, I entered week 2 with a little hesitation. I had to mentally prep. My pep talk went something like this:
There is no way you are going to lose as much weight this week as you did the last week. This is a lifelong journey, or at least 6 week journey. Stay committed to your workouts and committed to your diet. Try your best and don’t let one slip up ruin the entire week. Many have done this before you and many will do it after. You are strong and fabulous and will get this done!
I attended 5 workouts at The Camp this week. Even after just one week, I feel stronger. I am able to get through most of the exercises even though I might only be able to do two or three reps. As part of my protein shakes, I’ve added glutamine to help with muscle recovery and I honestly think is has helped tremendously. My body was so tired and sore in the morning, but I’ve noticed that my body doesn’t hurt as much and I’m able to give my workout my all. Bodybuilding.com lists the following benefits for glutamine:
THE BENEFITS OF L-GLUTAMINE!
Are you supplementing L-Glutamine? If not, maybe you should consider it after reading the following benefits. Glutamine is a carbon and nitrogen donor and helps restore glycogen which restores energy. Glutamine is the most important component of muscle protein, and helps repair and build muscle. Here’s a list of glutamine benefits:
- Glutamine has been linked to protein synthesis. It prevents your muscle from being catabolized (eaten up) in order to provide Glutamine for other cells in the body.
- Glutamine helps maintain cell volume and hydration, speeding up wound and burn healing and recovery.
- Glutamine benefits you by replenishing declining Glutamine levels during intense workouts.
- Research has shown Glutamine can help you produce growth hormone levels. A study has shown 2 grams of L-Glutamine increased growth hormones by over 400%.
- Glutamine may serve to boost your immune system. For bodybuilders, this is important since heavy workouts tend to greatly deplete Glutamine levels. (Glutamine is a primary energy source for your immune system.)
- Glutamine is one of the most important nutrients for your intestines. It has the ability to ‘repair a leaky gut’ by maintaining the structural integrity of the bowels.
- Bet you didn’t know this: It can even cure ulcers! Studies have found that 1.6 grams of Glutamine a day had a 92% cure rate in 4 weeks.
I’m trying to be very consistent about working out in the mornings. To sum it up, making the 6 am class is a struggle. I’m a night owl and it has taken real commitment trying to get myself to bed at 10 pm to wake up on time to workout, shower, make breakfast, get my daughter ready and navigate traffic. What does your routine look like? In the coming weeks I’m going to work on reducing the time it takes me to get out the door.
The Results
After a week of sweaty workout sessions and meal prepping I have lost a grand total of 1 lb this week. Was I disappointed, hell yeah, but I prepped myself for this. I know losing 6 lbs again was not realistic, but I was hoping for at least 3. I’m going to focus on the positive. I didn’t gain weight and in two weeks I’m down 7.1 lbs. I’m going to stay focused and continue on the journey.
Stay fit and fabulous!
